We’ll continue with our Book of the Month, Sanctity Through the Rosary, during November because I think it is timely and important for all of us to get serious about our faith and our spiritual life. But today is All Saints’ Day and tomorrow is All Souls’ Day, and the whole month is devoted to the Holy Souls, so during November we’ll do things a little differently. I’ll feature something specifically about the Holy Souls, a video or podcast or something, on Mondays, and continue with Sanctity Through the Rosary on Thursdays. We’ll see how that goes. I think both topics are very important for us, especially now. For many of us our spiritual lives need a jump start.

Weekly Series on the Soul, Part 48 – Christmas and Purgatory
+JMJ+ Welcome to part 48 of our weekly series on the soul. Just two more posts after this one in the series. November was the month devoted to the Holy Souls, but that’s not the only time we need to pray for them. I just discovered an article written in 2003 by an author I respect more and more: Christmas Seen As Best Time To Pray For Release Of The Holy Souls In Purgatory. After all, it’s the season of hope and for giving gifts. What better gift is there than the gift of release from Purgatory into Heaven? And all we have to do is pray for them. Remembering and praying for the Holy Souls on All Souls’ Day 2020, especially those who no one to pray for them. May we never forget them. Lord, help us to remember those who long to be with You when their purification is done.
Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them. May their souls and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.
Praying for the Holy Souls, Praying for Despairing Souls
Tonight I watched EWTN Live on Ash Wednesday as Fr. Mitch Pacwa interviewed Susan Tassone, author of many books about the Holy Souls in Purgatory. Her latest book, The Saint Faustina Prayer Book for the Holy Souls, is due to be released in April. Tassone made a study of Saint Faustina’s writings on Purgatory in her Diary: Divine Mercy in My Soul, and collects them in her book, along with prayers and novenas. I’m looking forward to getting a copy of this.
After watching the show I searched the internet for more about the Holy Souls and stumbled across this article at the Divine Mercy website and I want to share it with you: This is the Sound of a Lost Soul. I will never again hear a train whistle without thinking of this article and of all the despairing souls all over the world, so much in need of our prayers. Lord, have mercy.
Thanks for reading and may your Lenten season be one of deepening holiness, prayer, and interior life. God bless.
