The New Year comes in the way the old year went out: Bombings and burnings of churches around the world, the persecution and massacre of innocent people. The mainstream media is strangely silent when it comes to reporting violence against Christians, especially when that violence is perpetrated by the Chinese, who own them and everything else in this country, or Muslims, for whom our left-leaning media have such adulation and sympathy. So in case you haven’t heard, while we here in the states are witnessing legal battles and name-calling, others around the world are witnessing to the faith with their blood poured out on the streets. Lord, have mercy, Christ, have mercy. For the sake of His sorrowful Passion, have mercy on us and on the whole world. (Videos of testimony below.)

Apostleship of Prayer: The Holy Father’s Prayer Intention for the Month of January, Mission Intention – Dedication to Peace: That the dedication of Christians to peace may bear witness to the name of Christ before all men and women of good will. Reflection, current month.
In the midst of a quarreling world, we Christians dedicate ourselves to Christ’s way of peace by doing his will—the only basis for a just order that leads to peace.
This month we may be moved to pray especially for peace within in the Body of Christ. In January Christian churches of all kinds celebrate a week of prayer for Christian unity. Only through the union of all Christians will we be able to witness to the world that the name Christian means unity not division, peace not war. –From the Holy Father’s Reflections on the Monthly Prayer Intention for January 2012.
