It’s that time again. The pavement is sizzling and so is my latest novel. Okay, the pavement is, anyway. But my latest novel (I love the way that sounds!) is off to a sizzling beginning. I’m only 2,471 words into it so a lot remains to be seen. Things like characters, plot, development, conflict…
So far most of the conflict has been mine, trying to decide which coffee shop to grace with my novel-writing presence. This time I chose Starbuck’s and I can hardly hear myself think. I’ve got my favorite novel-writing soundtrack turned up as loud as I dare (and still allow me to hear when my absolutely necessary novel-writing caffeinated drink is ready). But the man sitting next to me is engaging in that most annoying habit of using Starbucks as his real estate office. Hmph! Doesn’t he know this is the novel-writers’ novel-writing office?! Aren’t there signs posted? No? Well, there should be!
Along with a sign that says “No talking on the phone next to the writers!” right along side the one that says “No loud noises near the writers!” and “Turn that music down (or OFF), puh-leez!”
I’m going to try again. If he doesn’t finish his calls soon, I’ll have to pack up and try somewhere else. Peace be with you. And also with me! ;)
